Bass Harbor
Bernard, Maine, August 2000
There are few things as relaxing as the aroma of the sea and the gentle motion of the water in Bass Harbor in August. The lobster boats, having delivered the day's catch, rest in the long afternoon sun, acting as weather vanes to the direction of the tide. Each boat represents a livelihood in the cold waters around Mt. Desert Island, and for each, there is someone tired from a hard day's work. For others, the boats represent delicious meals of Maine lobster. This is Down East Maine.
