The volcanic black sand beach rises over the North Atlantic on Iceland's southern shore from the village of Vík í Mýrdal.   This place is no stranger to the elements, and its shoreline stands as witness to eons of change.  Yet, the cliffs are alive with tens of thousands of nesting birds, showing the even difficult places can be home to those who adapt.
