Recycling workers take a moment's break for chai tea in the Dharavi slum.
There is a section of Mumbai called Dharavi. Known to be one of the largest slums in the world, Dharavi has between 1m and 2m occupants. The actual numbers are hard to know given the circumstances. An approximate 250,000 people in Dharavi work in recycling - taking apart all sorts of things, separating the materials, and preparing the raw material for recycling.
The people of Dharavi are hard working proud people who come from all over India to give their families and children new opportunities. Dharavi is a very moving place, but one comes away with a deep sense of admiration.
